Speed humps and speed cushions are both traffic calming measures to slow traffic down.
Speed humps are kerb to kerb vertical deflections placed at intervals along a road.
Speed Cushions are similar to Speed Humps except that they have gaps so that cyclists, emergency vehicles and buses are not affected by the traffic calming.
Why are they used?
Speed Humps and Speed Cushions provide a means to slow down drivers.
Where are they used?
They are principally used in residential areas to reduce vehicle speeds.
Speed Cushions are used only on cycle routes, bus routes and emergency vehicle routes since they cost approximately three times as much as Speed Humps.
As well as following Government guidelines on location we try to site speed humps away from Disabled Parking Bays and Doctors Bays.
Can I park on them?
Vehicles are permitted to park on Speed Humps and Speed Cushions unless there are any waiting and loading restrictions, or if the vehicle is causing an obstruction.
However, speed cushions have some obvious advantages over speed humps.
Advantage of speed cushions:
- Recycled rubber
- Easy to install
- Easy to shape
- Movable when needed
- Durable and Reusable
- Cost Effective
- Less material
- The Reflective tape is reflective in all weather
- Protect the environment
