Street furniture for improved health

Street furniture at the mountain resort of Whistler has been specially designed to help athletes and the public alike achieve better physical health and better posture.

The specially designed street furniture, which was installed for the 2010 Winter Olympics, had been designed to offer people with useful urban furniture additions while also helping to improve their health.

Designers studied symptoms both athletes and pedestrians suffered from and designed ways of how they could correct the problems with street furniture design.

For example they discovered that skateboarders and a person pushing a baby in a buggy suffered from the same problems, and so designed street furniture which helps correct problems with posture and eliminating the symptoms.

They also created bike racks which hold a bike up off the ground while also providing riders with a place to warm up and stretch their muscles.

Not all of the special corrective street furniture requires people to put physical effort in to them, some just require the user to sit, lounge and relax for the special contoured shape to have an effect on the user.
